Ra's Al Ghul versus the Legion - who will defeat this ancient threat? It's The Legion #7 & 8

Image
First of all, let me thank everyone for coming here from reddit - I really appreciate everyone's time and I'm so glad you're willing to spend some of your day reading my opinions. Second, last week was really the final straw for me regarding reddit. It's a great platform to make comments and write short articles, but it's become more and more unstable for long form writing like I do. Saving has become increasingly challenging, there are near-constant warnings that I've lost connection to the server, and posting pics has become almost impossible. Because of this, I've moved my writing to this blogpost. I've also transferred over all my articles to this website, so it's now a "one-stop-shop" for everything Legion-related that I've written. I have no idea whether the search engine is effective when everything's been dumped in the course of a couple of weeks, but we'll see as we go. Let's begin... The quick recap leading up to t...

The Ra's Al Ghul saga continues... we look at The Legion #5 & 6

Take two - the irony of this first paragraph was something I wrote before reddit decided to post the wrong version of this article is not lost on me... fingers crossed that this works. In somewhat interesting news, I wanted to let everyone know that I'm moving my past articles to a new place, my Blogspot , and will be posting new articles there in the future. I've been having some problems with reddit and their interface (and today pushed this to the forefront), so this will hopefully make my life a lot easier. Before we begin, let's recap: M'onel has been shot and left for dead by the newly-revealed villain, Ra's Al Ghul, who's been masquerading as U.P. President Leland McCauley. Ra's is also terraforming the Moon and has some deeper, darker plans that will lead to the Earth entering a new age. The U.P. military, under the command of McCauley's (Ra's??) assistant Mr. Venge (no idea how the assistant to the President is commanding the military, but l...

Is this the best DnA Legion story? Is Magnetic Kid the most forgettable Legionnaire? We look at The Legion #3 & 4

To recap what's gone on before: President McCauley is dead and replaced by... someone?? The Legionnaires who were gone for a year crash-landed on Earth, got blown up by McCauley and his goons (especially Mr. Venge, his "assistant"), escaped into tunnels deep under Metropolis, and instead of getting covered with toxic water (although I think they'd be able to handle radiation poisoning in the 31st Century) are saved by Shikari and The Bouncing Boy, a ship piloted by Chuck Taine. So the band is getting back together... The Legion #3   Yet another cover I really like. Using Interlac to have the book stand out on the shelf, and by putting the text at the bottom of the page, makes this far more interesting than usual comic covers. They've also captured a number of the Legionnaires' personalities in this single image, so I'm digging that as well. It's amazing to me that this is the same art team, Olivier Coipel and Andy Lanning, who did the Blight storyline ...

A new number one! A better Olivier Coipel! I'm excited! It's The Legion #1 & 2

It's December 2001 and we get yet another new Legion title. But since this is The Legion, and not The Legion of Super-Heroes, we're back to volume 1. Why have a new number one issue? To increase sales of course. Why put Legion Worlds between this and Legion Lost? I have no idea... But it worked. The Legion #1 was the first Legion book to sell over 30,000 copies since the Final Night crossover issue, which was five years earlier. No matter how much people might complain about the darker tone and art, it's working. Well... it's kinda working. We'll talk about this more as we get through this series. The Legion #1   Can I just say how much I love this cover? I always like when the artists play with the style/format and this one really works. I think that, with every issue, artist Olivier Coipel gets better and better and with that, more creative. Let's hope writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning (DnA) keep the momentum going from Legion Lost. One year after Legionnair...
