The Lightning Saga continues, the pages get crowded, and more Legionnaires appear in the 21st Century... We look at Justice League of America #9 & Justice Society of America #6

Justice League of America #9 Let's get something out of the way before I begin. Last issue I said that Batman kicked Karate Kid in the nuts to cheat and defeat him in a fight. Two different readers pointed out that he didn't, he just simply shifted so that Black Lightning could zap Val... and that's cheating too. I guess this says something about where my mind goes... I think it also shows that Karate Kid would've beaten Batman in a fight. The third chapter in our JLA/JSA/LSH crossover is written by Brad Metzler with art by Ed Benes. This chapter is named "Suicide," so I'm not expecting anything happy... For a quick recap - seven Legionnaires are stuck in the 21st Century, sent there by Brainiac 5. Starman is a member of the JSA and is suffering from badly-written schizophrenia. Karate Kid was caught by the JLA when he was disguised as a villain named Trident. Dream Girl was stuck in Arkham Asylum. And Wildfire was a statue in the Fortress of Solitude. All...

It's a JLA/JSA team-up with the Legion of Super-Heroes added in to make things spicy! We look at Justice League of America #8 & Justice Society of America #5

Justice League of America #8   I'm reading the JLA Lightning Saga trade paperback, so if I miss anything, get anything out of order, or act generally confused because I don't know every member of these teams, I apologize. This issue is brought to you by writer Brad Meltzer, penciller Shane Davis, and inker Matt Banning.  We begin in three different places: The Kitchen, which is 22,300 miles above Earth, so I'm guessing this is the JLA satellite HQ. The Hall, in Washington, D.C., where Mr. Terrific is playing chess, while blindfolded, against Black Canary and Green Lantern. I'm guessing this is the JSA's HQ. I have no idea why he needs to be blindfolded... I mean, are they saying that he doesn't need to see the board but "hears" the moves... or is that how strategic he is... or... I dunno. And the third place is the Batcave, in Gotham City, of course, where Batman and Black Lightning are studying the unconscious villain Trident. In Justice L...

It's the end of the Threeboot Legion! Jim Shooter walks away and we get a very awkward final issue! We look at Legion of Super-Heroes #49 & 50

Legion of Super-Heroes #49 Although we didn't know it while we were reading this comic, this is the final issue for writer Jim Shooter and penciller Francis Manapul. Inker Livesay will be back for the final issue, #50. But let's not jump over the bridge until we get there. It's Enemy Manifest part 4: One Evil. We begin with Projectra, training in some dark room with the rest of the Orandans who are helping her gain greater power to get revenge on the Legion and the United Planets for what happened to their planet. It got destroyed, if you had forgotten. And then she lost her title, all her power, and all her money. And no one helped her... unless you count Phantom Girl for reading old comics to her. Projectra has become much more powerful, defeating Orando's greatest warrior with one kick. She can also force people to do what she wants by controlling their minds and motivations. Speaking of Phantom Girl, she finally gets a Legionnaire to listen to her about her concer...
